Join our Cloud-native Earth Observation processing with SNAP and CDSE Tutorial at ESA’s Living Planet Symposium

Dear colleagues,

We’re pleased to invite you to a tutorial session on cloud-native processing with SNAP and CDSE, taking place this June at the ESA 2025 Living Planet Symposium in Vienna:

🗓 Sunday 22nd June
🕒 15:30 – 16:50
📍 Living Planet Symposium (Room 12)
Tutorial ID: D.03.17

SNAP (Sentinel Application Platform) is an open-source desktop software for Earth Observation image processing and analysis covering optical and microwave (including SMOS) sensors, including thermal and hyperspectral data. CDSE (Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem) is an open ecosystem that provides free, instant access to a wide range of data and services from the Copernicus Sentinel missions.

In this tutorial, we will cover the fundamentals of cloud-native Earth Observation processing with SNAP and CDSE. In specific, we will:

  • Introduce SNAP 12 and CDSE.
  • Present fundamentals on cloud deployment of containerised SNAP.
  • Demonstrate Python-driven processing with SNAPISTA and Snappy.
  • Navigate through data analytics and collaboration features of Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Best practices and Q&A.

Learning Outcomes: Participants will learn how to deploy SNAP 12 on CDSE and become familiar with designing Python-driven EO pipelines and executing scalable geospatial data analysis without data migration or download.

This 90-minute tutorial bridges ESA’s desktop-oriented SNAP tradition with modern cloud paradigms, empowering users to operationalise workflows in alignment with CDSE’s roadmap. No installation is required beforehand.

We hope to see you there! Please feel free to forward this message to anyone you think might be interested.
