Sen2Cor v2.12.03 installation packages are provided as standalone installers.
The main new features in the Sen2Cor v2.12.03 release with regard to the Sen2Cor v2.11 include:
- Support of the input L1C products generated with the current (15.0) and previous (14.9, 14.6, 14.5 and 14.2) PSD (Products Specification Document).
- Support for the forthcoming L1C products generated by the Copernicus Sentinel-2C Multi Spectral Instrument (MSI).
- Addition of the Look-Up Tables for Copernicus Sentinel-2C Multi Spectral Instrument (MSI).
- Support the handling of Copernicus DEM at 30 and 90m resolution hosted on the Registry of Open Data on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Perfective Maintenance (See Software Release Note ):
- Renaming of the DARK_FEATURES class (SCL = 2) in the Level-2A Scene Classification Layer by CAST_SHADOW. The computation of this class remains unchanged, only the name of the class is updated.
It is important to know, that the default configuration of the L2A algorithm provided with Sen2Cor version 2.12.03 is the same configuration as for the L2A “Core” Products processing in Sentinel-2 Ground Segment with L2A processing baseline 05.11. Therefore, no further tuning should be required on user side to get L2A Products similar to L2A Core Products.
In order to generate products compatible with the L2A Core Products it is necessary to set the usage of a Digital Elevation Model to improve Scene Classification and have the activation of the Land Cover ESA Climate Change Initiative (CCI) data-package to be downloaded here and installed. The usage of ESA CCI data package for Sen2Cor is detailed in the dedicated Software User Manual: S2-OMPC-L2A-SUM-V2.12.03.pdf.
The usage of and access to the Copernicus DEM is detailed in the Software User Manual: S2-OMPC-L2A-SUM-V2.12.03.pdf. Thanks to a dedicated tool it is possible to retrieve for any L1C product the corresponding Copernicus DEM geocells from the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE). Those geocells can then directly be used by Sen2Cor software. This tool can be accessed here: Senbox: CDSE-Copernicus-DEM-downloader and a quick guide explaining how to operate the tool is available here: CDSE_DEM_Downloader_v1_3.pdf. It is recommended to use this tool as it is designed around Sen2Cor and provide a simple access to the official Copernicus DEM data.
Using the Copernicus DEM@30m, the main differences between L2A “Toolbox” and L2A “Core” Products are reported in the following table:
Category of Difference | Difference | L2A Toolbox | L2A Core Products |
Product Format | HTML Folder | No | Yes |
Manifest | Same Set of Items but arranged in different order
Product Quality Metadata | Copied from L1C | Generated by L2A On-line Quality Check (OLQC)
JPEG2000 encoding library | OpenJPEG | Kakadu
Processing baseline | 99.99 | Official, e.g. 05.09 |
The evolution of the processing baseline used to process Sentinel-2 L2A Core Products in Ground Segment are reported in the L2A Data Quality Report.
