
{"id":2509,"date":"2025-05-05T12:18:32","date_gmt":"2025-05-05T12:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/step.esa.int\/main\/?p=2509"},"modified":"2025-05-05T12:37:56","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T12:37:56","slug":"2509-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/step.esa.int\/main\/2509-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Join our Cloud-native Earth Observation processing with SNAP and CDSE Tutorial at ESA\u2019s Living Planet Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear colleagues,  <\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re pleased to invite you to a <strong>tutorial session on cloud-native processing with SNAP and CDSE<\/strong>, taking place this June at the ESA 2025 Living Planet Symposium in Vienna:<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\uddd3 <strong>Sunday 22nd June<\/strong><br \/>\n\ud83d\udd52 <strong>15:30 \u2013 16:50<\/strong><br \/>\n\ud83d\udccd <em>Living Planet Symposium (Room 12)<\/em><br \/>\nTutorial ID:<strong> D.03.17 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/step.esa.int\/main\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SNAP<\/a> (Sentinel Application Platform)<\/strong> is an open-source desktop software for Earth Observation image processing and analysis covering optical and microwave (including SMOS) sensors, including thermal and hyperspectral data. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dataspace.copernicus.eu\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CDSE<\/a> (Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem)<\/strong> is an open ecosystem that provides free, instant access to a wide range of data and services from the Copernicus Sentinel missions. <\/p>\n<p>In this tutorial, we will cover the fundamentals of <em>cloud-native Earth Observation processing with SNAP and CDSE<\/em>. In specific, we will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduce SNAP 12 and CDSE.<\/li>\n<li>Present fundamentals on cloud deployment of containerised SNAP.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate Python-driven processing with SNAPISTA and Snappy.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate through data analytics and collaboration features of Jupyter Notebooks.<\/li>\n<li>Best practices and Q&#038;A.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Learning Outcomes<\/strong>: Participants will learn how to deploy SNAP 12 on CDSE and become familiar with designing Python-driven EO pipelines and executing scalable geospatial data analysis without data migration or download. <\/p>\n<p>This 90-minute tutorial bridges ESA\u2019s desktop-oriented SNAP tradition with modern cloud paradigms, empowering users to operationalise workflows in alignment with CDSE\u2019s roadmap.
